Mike Fantis

Can you tell us about your career background and how you got to the position you are in today?

I’ve been working in digital media since graduating from University. I started as digital marketing exec and progressed and moved through the job roles to where I am today, VP Managing Partner of DAC UK. My experience spans across specialist agency, client side and media agency before embarking on starting a new agency in 2008 which was subsequently acquired by DAC in 2015.

What or who inspired you to achieve the success you have had?

My father always worked from himself and showed me what can be achieved through hard work, having pride in your work and striving to be the best.

What’s the best part of your job?

Clients – the breadth of brands we work with keep the job interesting and forever changing with new challenges and objectives to meet.

What types of projects are you working on right now?

Varied, paid media, SEO, UX & content across a number of clients, NetJets, David Lloyd, StorageMart and start-ups.

Where do the great ideas come from in your organization?

Both from the senior management team that manage all offices and from the offices themselves. We have autonomy to manage our own destiny. Due to my experience, I work closely with our subject matter experts to give feedback on our products and offering.

What are your interests outside of work?

Sport. I love watching sport and playing football, tennis and most recently taken up golf in preparation for not being able to play football for much longer. Cuban cigars and whiskey are a new interest for me too.

How do you celebrate success?

This is a great question because this is something I’m drumming int our team. Our job is difficult and we sometimes forget to celebrate success as we quickly move on to the next project. Hugely important we celebrate success even if it’s just taking time to discuss what was achieved over a drink or socialising.

What career advice would you give your younger self?

Don’t do business with “friends”. Not saying it can’t work and I’ve made it work with my current colleague but it can be messy if there isn’t full transparency between partners.

What are little things that annoy you in the workplace?

Having to look after the office like I’m a parent. Leaks, blockages etc.

Are you a hunter or a gatherer?
Both!!!

What podcasts do you regularly tune into?

Inside the funnel, DAC’s very own podcast & Pivot following a recommendation from a mutual friend in Lucy Mann.

What three people, living or dead, would you invite to dinner?

Diego Maradona, Che Guevara, Nelson Mandela.
